What is ovarian cyst?
When a fluid filled sac (cyst) is seen within the ovary it is called ovarian cyst.
What are the types of cyst?
Ovarian cyst may be cancerous or non-cancerous type.
Non-cancerous types can be like endometriosis, functional cyst dermoid cyst etc.
What problem can you expect with ovarian cyst?
You can experience pain in lower tummy, painful periods, pain during sex, pain while emptying your bowels, vomiting, loss of appetite, loss of weight. Sometimes you may not have any symptoms and can be seen in scan during other evaluation.
How to diagnose ovarian cyst?
It can be seen in ultrasound scan. Sometimes to differentiate the type of cyst your doctor may ask you to do further imaging with CT scan or MRI scan.
Blood tests can also will be done to see the type of cyst.
What is treatment for ovarian cyst?
Treatment can be expectant management (wait and watch), medical management or surgical management. Treatment depends on the type & size of cyst.
